What BJJ Means for me?
BJJ has changed different aspects of my life and it has made me a healthier and happier person. I get to train with my son, my brother and my girlfriend. I have met great people and awesome friends trough BJJ. The experience is priceless. I love BJJ and see myself growing old training and teaching BJJ.

Teaching and Training BJJ!

Ramses Patino was born in Mexico City, Mexico and raised in Santa Ana, CA, USA. BJJ caught his attention in the 90’s when he watched Royce Gracie submit his opponents, it was clear that he was always outweighed. Royce Gracie’s ‘leverage and technique’ fascinated Ramses. Although he would have liked to start at the age of 13, his parents weren’t ready to approve. Many years later and still with the urge to compete, Ramses started training MMA in 2005. In 2007 he wasn’t feeling completely satisfied, so he dropped MMA and signed up at Gracie Barra, Santa Ana with his then 7 year old son, Sesmar. Under his first Professor, Ulpiano Malachias, Ramses was given the opportunity to teach, and he loved it! Come 2009, Ramses was coaching at GBSA. Still having the desire to compete, he won 2nd place at a Gracie Barra tournament as a blue belt. As a purple belt he won 1st place two times, also at Gracie Barra tournaments. His most recent tournament was another Gracie Barra tournament, where he once again won 1st place as a brown belt. Although competing was a great experience for him, Ramses finds much more joy in teaching BJJ. He received his black belt from Master Carlos Gracie Jr. on May 27, 2015, at the Gracie Barra headquarters location in Irvine, CA. Professor Ramses has been the Chief Instructor of GBSA since June 2015, and is currently teaching most of the classes

What BJJ means for me?
For me, BJJ is a way of learning respect and self-confidence, patients and dignity, sustainability and loyalty, strength and weakness… it’s a continued education. I learn from BJJ every time I train and the lessons go far beyond the mats.

Training BJJ, Coaching BJJ, Lifting Weights, Snowboarding, and Boating too… but mostly BJJ

Victor Gomes Miranda was born in São Paulo, Campinas, Brazil. Under his father, a world champion Muay Thai fighter, Victor has been doing MMA as long as he can remember. In 1995 Victor came to California for the first time and fell in love with it. Although he wished he could stay, he went back to Brazil and remained focused on his studies. He graduated from UNIP (University of São Paulo) with a Law Degree in 2004. Victor was successful academically, but still had a strong interest in nutrition and body sculpting. He pursued this interest and won 1st place in São Paulo’s Campeonato Paulista, a professional arm wrestling competition in 2005. Then he competed in a professional body building competition in March 2006. Five days after that competition, Victor moved to Southern California, making his dream come true. In California, Victor started training BJJ full time under his network of Gracie Barra friends. In 2011 BJJ was officially Victor’s life when he became owner of Gracie Barra Santa Ana. He now shares the school with his wife Jennifer, and of course, their young daughters Victoria and Skyler. For him, there is nothing he would rather be doing than coach the kids or ‘roll with the boys’.
